Journey fact:

Beneath Scarborough Castle lies a natural spring once believed to have healing powers. This “spa” water gave Scarborough its reputation as Britain’s first seaside resort in the 1600s, attracting visitors long before beach holidays were even considered fashionable.

Journey Overview

An incredible brand new open top tour of Scarborough, one of the most stunning and fun-filled coastal resorts in the UK and beyond.

Connecting with arriving trains at Scarborough Railway Station, this barnstorming tour makes its way across the town, with views of the famous St. Mary’s Church and Scarborough Castle. The ‘live’ tour guide will keep you entertained on this open-top bus tour with birds-eye views over the coast and far beyond.

There’s a short stop for photos atop of North Bay on the cliff, before descending down to Peasholm Park, with its Japanese Garden and the iconic North Bay Railway, a vintage trip awaits and 10% off if you show your bus ticket. Back on-board and the bus skirts the top of the cliff down to Sealife Centre, passing Alpamere Park. Then hugging the coast, it’s down to Lunar Park, fairground and along the promenade, stopping beside amusement arcades, fish and chip shops and lots of opportunities to buy Candy Floss before heading to the charming, stylish Scarborough Spa, then up into the town centre, with a short walk to the famous Cliff Railway and the Indoor Market, before the bus arrives back at Scarborough station at the end of an action-packed, thrill a minute, unforgettable tour!

A Fab Day Out!

A perfect day out in Scarborough starts with a gentle climb from the open top bus stop up to St Mary’s Church, perched dramatically on the headland. The views alone are worth it, sweeping across the North Sea and down over the harbour, but there’s also a quiet, historic atmosphere that makes it a peaceful place to begin the day.

Just next door, you can step straight into history at Scarborough Castle. Wander the ruins, climb the battlements, and take in one of the best coastal viewpoints in Yorkshire. It feels windswept and cinematic, with over 3,000 years of history beneath your feet.

From there, head down on the bus into the North Bay area and slow the pace at Peasholm Park. This Japanese-style park is unexpectedly tranquil, with its boating lake, little islands, and winding paths. It’s the kind of place where you can sit for a while and reset before the busier parts of the day.

Right nearby is the charming North Bay Railway, a miniature railway that runs along the seafront. It’s nostalgic, slightly quirky, and a genuinely fun way to take in the coastline.

Next, dive into something more lively at the SEA LIFE Scarborough. From sharks to seals, it’s immersive without being overwhelming, and works just as well for adults as it does for families.

A short walk brings you to Luna Park Scarborough, where the classic seaside energy kicks in. Think bright lights, arcade sounds, and rides right by the water. It’s unapologetically fun.

From there, wander into the town centre, dipping into the Scarborough Indoor Market. It’s full of independent stalls, proper local character, and the kind of food finds you don’t expect. If you’re visiting in season, you might even catch a match at North Marine Road Ground, where county cricket occasionally returns, adding another layer to the town’s heritage.

Finish your day at Scarborough Spa, an iconic venue right on the South Bay. Whether it’s live music, theatre, or just a drink overlooking the sea, it’s the perfect place to wind down as the sun sets.
