About this journey

Bustling Blackpool and polished Poulton - a treat of a trip across the fantastic Fylde

Journey overview

12, Blackpool to Poulton

Almost circumspectly, under the shadows of Blackpool's bars and clubs, the 12 bus starts at the Library, making its way in an undersold way out towards the north of the town. Through suburban streets the bus twists and turns before the expansive parkland of Stanley Park emerges, the model railway on the left, zoo on the right and then the entrance to the large grounds of the grandiouse Village Hotel and its gardens. Past Stanley Park Golf Course, the bus continues, with bunkers and fairways before Moor Park Health and Leisure Centre. Then Bipsham emerges and the "Walk In Stagger Out" pub, followed a few doors away by "The Albion". Pretty houses with well manicured gardens then follow and large fields with cows as well as a delightful cottage with green foliage covering three quarters of it at Kincraig Road. Very soon Norcross Lane arrives and another large field, which occasionally stages a circus and then the final straight to Poulton. Retail outlets come into view, but the bus circles round them and into town through narrow tree-lined streets, boutique, independent shops and pubs and with the majestic St Chad's Church a fitting finale, nestled a few yards from the bus stop in the heart of this very polished and friendly town!

Fab day out

A great day out on the Number 12 bus begins in the lively heart of Blackpool, where the famous Promenade, Blackpool Tower, and Comedy Carpet offer the perfect start to your adventure. Begin your morning with a stroll along the seafront, soaking in the sea air and grabbing a fresh doughnut or coffee from one of the kiosks. If time allows, pop into the Winter Gardens or take a quick ride on the Central Pier’s Big Wheel for sweeping coastal views.

12, Blackpool to Poulton

Board the Number 12 bus and head inland toward Stanley Park, where you'll find two gems nestled side by side: Blackpool Model Village and the Blackpool Zoo. The Model Village is a charming, miniature world set among beautifully landscaped gardens, perfect for a peaceful wander with quirky scenes to spot along the way. Next door, Blackpool Zoo is home to everything from lions and gorillas to penguins and giraffes, making it an engaging stop for families and wildlife lovers alike.

Hop back on the bus and head north to Bispham, a quieter coastal suburb of Blackpool. Take a break here with a short walk along the cliffside Queens Promenade, which offers views across the Irish Sea. It’s a great place to relax away from the crowds and maybe enjoy a quick bite at one of the local cafés or chippies.

12, Blackpool to Poulton

Your final stop is Poulton-le-Fylde, a historic market town with a totally different vibe from the coastal stops. Start with a wander around Market Square, where independent shops and old pubs line the cobbled streets. Don’t miss the Parish Church of St. Chad, which dates back to medieval times and is said to be connected to old smuggler tunnels. Enjoy a relaxed dinner or drink at The Thatched House or The Cube, both popular with locals. With its mix of history, charm, and excellent food, Poulton is the perfect place to round off a varied and memorable day out on the 12 bus route.
