   Get on-board the Valleyline 22 bus at Blackburn Bus Station (Stand 2)

   Enjoy this scenic ride that combines Lancastrian indoor heritage, cottages and terraced houses with neatly manicured gardens, independent shops and stunning views of the Ribble Valley. Whatever the weather, it's always one of the most atmospheric of bus journeys in the UK. A particular highlight is when the bus goes through the paradisiacal village of Langho. What's more the fare on each bus is only £3 for adults!

   Whalley is wonderful, nestled at the foot of Whalley Nab along the delights of the River Calder. Steeped in history, with rural charm, lovely floral displays and fascinating independent shops, it's a real hidden gem!

   Enjoy the delights of wonderful Whalley

   The grounds of Whalley Abbey are only 5 minutes away from the bus stop. Take a stroll round the picturesque abbey ruins and perfectly kept gardens, with beautiful flowers, offering a perfect retreat by the River Calder. There's a delightful cafe here too! Then maybe a stroll down King Street and perhaps a pint in the Swan Inn or a visit to Delicio Whalley which has an amazing selection of cheeses and food, as well as a friendly welcome! On your way back, you can always, stop off for a tipple in the chic Whalley Wine Bar which is also in King Street!

   Back on-board the Valleyline bus

   Close to the River Calder, the bus makes its way, up the hill, past grandiose gated houses, that give way to hills, before Clitheroe beckons with the castle on the horizon.

   Get off the bus at Clitheroe Interchange

   Meander up the hill, through the town, taking time to check out the eclectic array of shops and unique speciality shops. cafes and galleries as well as the market, which takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Clitheroe is a truly fascinating town and a great base for the Forest of Bowland if you are planning to make a longer trip!

   Be sure to visit this historic Norman castle dating back to the 12th century. Take a stroll round the beautiful castle grounds with panoramic views of the Ribble valley and visit the fascinating museum.

   Back on the bus at Clitheroe Interchange (Stand 6)

   The scenic sojourn continues as you make your way back to Blackburn, traversing historical buildings and monuments, classic Lancashire countryside and with he view from the bus window relentlessly enthralling!

    It's been a great journey and more devoured on the bus before anticipation grows as the landscape moves from rural to industrial as Blackburn approaches and the Bus Station which is right, slap, bang in the heart of this invigorating town, framed by a grand entrance that creates a fitting denouement to this delightful trip. Even though the clocks have changed, it's still daylight so there's been plenty to see on the journey.

    Visit Blackburn Cathedral

    The stunning Anglican Cathedral offers an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of this Lancashire hot pot of a town. Explore the collection of religious art and maybe take in a service or enjoy the fab Carol service in the run up to Christmas.

    A walk round Blackburn, followed by dinner!

    Soak up the streets of Blackburn and its great architecture, including the fab Town Hall (see picture below) and many sculptures that dominate the landscape. Then, it's dinner, possibly at one of the many authentic asian restaurants in the town centre or another favourite is Toro's Steakhouse at 108 Northgate or The Firepit at One Cathedral Square, The Boulevard.
