Attraction Overview

York Minster is a working Gothic cathedral that dominates the city skyline, known for its stunning stonework and one of the world’s great collections of medieval stained glass. The present building was raised between the 13th and 15th centuries, combining Early English, Decorated and Perpendicular styles. The Great East Window spans the height of the choir with thousands of glass panels depicting biblical scenes.

Inside, the octagonal Chapter House showcases exceptional acoustics and fine carving, including medieval heads along the walls. Specialist stonemasons, glaziers and conservators work on site, reflecting an active programme that protects the limestone and thousands of glass panels.

Be sure to explore...
