The 10B bus from Eldon Square to Prudhoe offers a scenic journey along the Tyne Valley. Leaving Newcastle’s city streets, the route soon follows the River Tyne, passing leafy suburbs, wooded hillsides and open countryside. Views of historic villages, farmland and the river make it a relaxing and picturesque trip west.

Perched high above the River Tyne, Prudhoe Castle dominates the surrounding countryside with its thick stone walls and sturdy towers. From below, the fortress rises dramatically against the skyline, offering a striking glimpse of the medieval stronghold that once guarded the Tyne Valley.

Take the 10B from Prudhoe Castle to Prudoe Town Centre
The short bus ride from Prudhoe Castle into Prudhoe town centre winds through the green Tyne Valley. As you descend from the hilltop castle, glimpses of wooded slopes, stone houses and the River Tyne appear, before the route settles into the lively heart of the town.

It’s a brief but enjoyable trip, with a football ground and the Tyne Valley Garden Centre on the right, as the small hamlet comes into view, set against the backdrop of idyllic Cherryburn National Trust parkland, which opens again on 6 June 2026.

At Cherryburn, the birthplace of renowned engraver Thomas Bewick, explore the restored Georgian cottage, creative exhibition spaces and peaceful riverside gardens. Learn about Bewick’s influential artwork, enjoy views over the River Tyne, and wander the orchard and wildflower areas surrounding this quiet countryside retreat. Check out the lovely village of Stocksfield and the grandiouse Bywell Bridge!

Caressing the River Tyne, the bus makes its way through Stocksfield, with green fields either side, before Corbridge appears and the bus passes the Craft Works Gallery, Black Bull and Blue Bell pub before nestling beside the lovely St. Andrew’s Church.

Arrive at Cobridge Hill Street and visit Corbridge Roman Town
Corbridge is a charming historic village near Hadrian’s Wall. Browse independent shops along the pretty high street, explore the fascinating ruins at Corbridge Roman Town, stroll beside the River Tyne, and relax in welcoming cafés and traditional pubs.

Back on the bus and over the famous 13th Century bridge and out of town, across beautiful green pastures across the Tyne Valley.

Begin in Hexham market square, wander to Hexham Abbey, then stroll through Sele Park for leafy views and benches. Loop back past independent shops before stopping at Vercelli Restaurant for a relaxed afternoon tea, with coffee, cakes, and a cosy atmosphere to unwind.

If it’s the height of the Summer, the sun will be setting on the terrific Tyne Valley as the bus travels back to Newcastle and it’s bright lights.

Just a short walk from Eldon Square Bus Station, enjoy a relaxed evening drink at The Alchemist Newcastle. Known for its theatrical cocktails and lively atmosphere, it’s a great spot to unwind with a drink before your journey, right in the heart of Eldon Square’s bustling restaurant and bar quarter. Then, it’s on to savour more of Newcastle’s famous nightlife and reflect on a fab day out!
