Attraction Overview

Step inside and enter the quirky world of Professor Kettlestring, a fictional inventor whose steampunk-inspired lab is filled with optical illusions, tilted rooms and gravity-defying sites. The attraction includes over 20 exhibits, such as upside-down living rooms, head-swapping parlours and shrinking rooms where kids can tower over adults. Staff are on hand to guide you through the illusions and help set up photos, using your own phone or their optional professional camera service.

How to get here

The attraction is located on Merchantgate in central York, opposite the Red Lion pub. If you're walking from the Shambles or Parliament Street, head south and follow signs toward Piccadilly. Merchantgate is clearly marked, and the entrance is easy to spot with its colourful Professor-themed signage and large front windows.

Get here by Public Transport

Local buses stop nearby on Pavement, Stonebow or Piccadilly, just a short 2–3 minute walk to Merchantgate. Follow the road past the Bakehouse pub until you see the attraction’s colourful signage. You can also take the City Sightseeing York open-top bus (hop-on, hop-off service), simply get off at the stop near Merchantgate and stroll down. The attraction offers a 10% discount when you show your bus ticket.
