Attraction Overview

Blackgang Chine opened in 1843 and has developed over the years into a theme park focused on creativity and imagination. Set across the Isle of Wight’s southern cliffs, the park is divided into themed areas such as the Restricted Area 5 filled with moving dinosaurs and animatronics and Pirate Cove. Each area includes walk-through sets, rides, and interactive features designed for younger children and families.

The layout of the park changes over time due to coastal erosion, so returning visitors may find new paths or relocated features. Key rides include the Extinction pendulum ride and Evolution drop tower, both offering views over the Channel.

Be sure to explore...

  • The Extinction ride, which swings you out over the clifftop.
  • Cowboy Town, complete with staged showdowns and western-themed sets.
  • Pirate Cove, where you can aim water cannons and board the animated ghost ship.
  • The walk-through dinosaur trail, complete with sound and movement.

The park is located off the A3055 on the southern edge of the Isle of Wight, near the village of Chale. Follow signs for Blackgang Chine from Newport or Ventnor. The entrance sits just past the clifftop car park, marked clearly with the park’s signage and themed figures.
