The Forbidden Corner spans four acres of walled garden in Tupgill Park, just outside Leyburn. It was created in the 1980s and opened to the public in 1997 as a whimsical maze of hidden tunnels, eccentric statues and secret chambers. Visitors receive a checklist, not a map, and must navigate stone passageways and optical illusions.Be sure to explore:
- The burping dragon entrance, crawl through if you dare.
- The giant stone dog’s head fountain, unexpectedly perched among trees.
- The talking tree carvings, you never know what they’ll say.
- Rotating chambers and topsy-turvy rooms that mess with your senses.

The Forbidden Corner is located in Tupgill Park Estate, between Middleham and Leyburn in North Yorkshire. From the A684, follow signs to Middleham and then Tupgill. You’ll pass through rural lanes before reaching the entrance, marked by a quirky folly-themed sign and a handcrafted stone gatehouse.

Bus routes 159 and 856 serve Leyburn bus stop, a 45‑minute scenic walk away. After disembarking, head east on the A684 before turning left onto the lane to Tupgill, the route is clearly signposted. Country lanes and stone walls guide you to the quirky entrance.
