Fleetwood Football Club
About:
Fleetwood Town Football Club, affectionately known as “The Cod Army,” is a professional football team based in the coastal town of Fleetwood, Lancashire. The club plays its home games at Highbury Stadium, a compact but modern ground with a capacity of around 5,300, located just a short walk from the town centre and seafront.
Fleetwood Town has one of the most remarkable rise-through-the-ranks stories in English football. Originally founded in 1908, the club has been reformed multiple times, most recently in 1997, and has experienced a meteoric ascent from non-league football to the professional tiers. Between 2005 and 2014, Fleetwood achieved six promotions in ten seasons, culminating in their promotion to League One—the third tier of English football—in 2014, where they have remained competitive ever since.
The club gained national attention during this rise, particularly in the 2011–12 season, when Fleetwood won the Conference Premier (now National League) and earned promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history. That same season, Fleetwood famously reached the third round of the FA Cup, where they hosted Premier League side Blackpool in a high-profile local clash.
Fleetwood Town is known for its forward-thinking approach, both on and off the pitch. Under the ownership of Andy Pilley, the club invested heavily in infrastructure, including the impressive Poolfoot Farm training complex, which is used by both the first team and the community. The club has a strong focus on youth development, with a growing academy that supports local talent.
Though Fleetwood is a relatively small club compared to its League One rivals, it punches well above its weight, known for its hard-working ethos, passionate fanbase, and community involvement. Matches at Highbury Stadium have an intimate, energetic feel, with fans creating a lively atmosphere.
Fleetwood Town FC is a shining example of what ambition, smart management, and community support can achieve in modern football—transforming a small-town club into a respected name in the English Football League.
