Attraction Overview

The Roman Baths sit at the heart of ancient Aquae Sulis, a full Roman complex built around a natural thermal spring that still bubbles up at over 40 °C. Visitors can walk on original Roman paving, look into the steaming Great Bath, and trace a route once used by priests, soldiers and citizens through sacred chambers and courtyards. You’ll encounter remarkably intact temple ruins, changing rooms, heated plunge pools and intricate mosaics.

The adjoining museum houses an extraordinary collection of Roman artefacts found on-site, including the gilt bronze head of Sulis Minerva, curse tablets inscribed with Latin pleas for justice, and decorative stonework that once crowned the temple pediment. Audio guides and displays bring out the detail in each section, from the engineering behind the baths to the rituals and beliefs of their users. Seasonal evening openings also let visitors experience the site by torchlight.

How to get here

Located in the centre of Bath, next to Bath Abbey. From Bath Spa station, it’s an easy 8–10 minute walk - follow signs for the city centre and head towards Abbey Churchyard. The Roman Baths entrance is directly opposite the Abbey.

Get here by Public Transport

Frequent local and intercity buses stop at Bath Bus Station, less than 5 minutes’ walk from the attraction. Head north along Southgate Street and turn right onto Stall Street to reach the entrance.
