Rhyl Miniature Railway

The Rhyl Miniature Railway is a charming 15-inch gauge heritage railway that runs a one-mile circuit around the Marine Lake on the western side of Rhyl. First opened in 1911, it is one of the oldest miniature railways still operating in Britain and has carried generations of visitors on short trips behind small steam and diesel locomotives.

The line is operated by a volunteer-run charitable trust and is closely associated with engineer Albert Barnes, who built and ran many of the railway's classic locomotives from the workshop here during the early twentieth century. Several historic engines from the line have been preserved, and steam-hauled services run on selected days through the season.

At the Central Station near the lakeside there is a small museum dedicated to the railway's history, with photographs, models and information on Barnes's locomotives. The short ride is ideal for families combining a visit with time on Rhyl's beach and seafront, and the railway sits within a wider park area popular for walks around the lake.
