Marbury Park
About:
Marbury Country Park, near Northwich in Cheshire, is a beautiful expanse of parkland, woodland, and lakeside scenery forming part of the wider Northwich Woodlands. Once the grand estate of Marbury Hall, home to the Smith-Barry family, the park still retains much of its historic charm — with sweeping avenues of lime trees, an arboretum, and remnants of formal gardens that hint at its elegant past. Although the original hall was demolished in the 1960s, the estate’s landscape design and sense of grandeur remain.
Set beside the tranquil waters of Budworth Mere, Marbury offers stunning views across the lake and provides an ideal setting for walking, cycling, and wildlife watching. Its diverse habitats — from grasslands and reedbeds to ancient woodland — support a wide range of species, including herons, kingfishers, and great crested grebes. The park’s well-maintained trails link into the wider network of Northwich Woodlands paths, making it perfect for both gentle strolls and longer outdoor adventures.
Marbury Country Park is especially popular with families. The large, modern play area sits among trees, offering a safe and fun environment for children. Picnic areas, open meadows, and barbecue spots make it a great location for relaxed days out, while the seasonal Marbury Outdoor Pool, managed by volunteers, adds a unique attraction for swimmers during warmer months.
Throughout the year, the park hosts guided walks, wildlife events, and community activities that celebrate its natural beauty and history. In spring, carpets of bluebells fill the woods; in autumn, golden leaves transform the landscape. With its blend of heritage, nature, and recreation, Marbury Country Park offers something for everyone — a peaceful retreat steeped in history, where visitors can connect with nature and enjoy the timeless beauty of Cheshire’s countryside.
