Llangollen Railway

The Llangollen Railway is a heritage steam line that runs through the beautiful Dee Valley in north east Wales, between Llangollen and Corwen. Operated by volunteers, the standard-gauge line follows the River Dee for around 10 miles, passing through Berwyn, Glyndyfrdwy and Carrog before terminating at Corwen Central.

Trains are hauled by a rotating fleet of preserved steam and diesel locomotives, with vintage carriages restored in traditional livery. Llangollen Station itself, with its canopied platforms beside the river, is one of the most picturesque heritage railway stations in Britain, sitting opposite the stone bridge in the centre of the town. Berwyn Station is a particular highlight, perched above the river next to the Chain Bridge and the Horseshoe Falls.

Special events run throughout the year, including driver experience days, dining trains, a Santa Express in December and themed weekends celebrating 1940s heritage and Thomas the Tank Engine. Combined with a walk along the adjacent Llangollen Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage corridor, the railway is one of the most rewarding ways to see the Dee Valley.
