Corwen Heritage Railway

Corwen station marks the western terminus of the Llangollen Railway, a volunteer-run heritage line that runs for around ten miles through the beautiful Dee Valley. The reopening of services to a new platform at Corwen Central in 2024 completed a decades-long extension project, restoring the railway to a town that lost its passenger services with the Beeching closures of the 1960s.

Steam and heritage diesel trains from Llangollen wind alongside the River Dee, calling at Berwyn, Glyndyfrdwy and Carrog before arriving at Corwen. The line follows the route of the original Ruabon to Barmouth railway, passing under the spectacular Berwyn iron bridge and through wooded gorges that are particularly striking in autumn.

Corwen itself is a traditional Welsh market town closely associated with Owain Glyndwr, whose statue stands in the town square a short walk from the station. The heritage railway is a popular base for exploring the Dee Valley, the Berwyn mountains, and the wider Snowdonia area, with through tickets making for an easy day trip from Llangollen.
