Burnley Football Club, based in the town of Burnley, Lancashire, is one of the most historic and respected clubs in English football. Founded in 1882, the club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888 and has a proud tradition that stretches back over 140 years.

Known as “The Clarets” due to their distinctive claret and blue kits, Burnley has experienced both highs and lows throughout its long history. The club’s greatest early achievement came in 1921, when they won the First Division title (now the Premier League) after going on a remarkable 30-game unbeaten run. They repeated this feat in 1960, again becoming champions of England under manager Harry Potts. Burnley also won the FA Cup in 1914, beating Liverpool 1–0 at Crystal Palace.

Burnley has long been known for punching above its weight. As a small-town club with limited resources, it has often defied expectations, especially in the modern era. Under manager Sean Dyche, Burnley achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2014 and again in 2016, establishing themselves as a gritty, well-organised side that was difficult to beat. Their best recent finish came in the 2017–18 season, when they finished 7th in the Premier League and qualified for European competition for the first time in over 50 years.

As of the 2024–25 season, Burnley competed in the EFL Championship, having been relegated from the Premier League the previous year under manager Vincent Kompany. It was promoted under manager Scott Parker, back to the Premier League at the first attempt in May 2025.
