Tay Forest Park

Tay Forest Park covers a vast swathe of Highland Perthshire, stretching from Loch Tay through Glen Lyon and along the wooded shores of Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch. Managed by Forestry and Land Scotland, it brings together ancient Caledonian pine remnants, productive conifer plantations, oak and birch woodland, and dramatic lochside and moorland scenery into one of the most varied forest landscapes in the country.

The park's best-known viewpoint is the Queen's View, looking west along Loch Tummel towards the distinctive peak of Schiehallion. The car park and visitor centre here are a popular starting point for short waymarked walks and forest drives. Other highlights include the Black Wood of Rannoch, one of Scotland's most important surviving fragments of native pinewood; the Birks of Aberfeldy, with its waterfall walk made famous by Robert Burns; and the forests around Faskally near Pitlochry, which host the Enchanted Forest light show each autumn.

Wildlife is a major draw, with red squirrels, red and roe deer, capercaillie, pine martens and ospreys all present. Walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers will find a wide network of trails, and the area is easily reached from Pitlochry railway station on the Highland Main Line, with local buses serving Aberfeldy, Kinloch Rannoch and the Queen's View.
