About this attraction

About Aros Centre, Portree

The Aros Centre is Portree's main arts and community venue, tucked into a woodland setting on Viewfield Road at the southern edge of the town. Combining a cinema, theatre space, exhibition area, cafe and shop, it functions as the year-round cultural hub of the Isle of Skye and often hosts Gaelic language events, live music and touring productions alongside its regular film programme.

The auditorium screens current releases as well as more specialist films, and doubles as a stage for concerts, plays and festival events, including screenings and performances tied to the Skye Live and Gaelic cultural calendars. The lobby usually features rotating exhibitions by local artists and photographers, giving a sense of the island's contemporary creative scene beyond the more familiar landscape shots.

The centre is set back from the road with its own car park, and short forest walks lead from the site down towards Loch Portree, so you can easily combine a film or exhibition visit with a stretch of the legs and a coffee. It is a useful indoor option on a wet Skye afternoon, and one of the few places on the island where you can reliably catch a mainstream cinema screening.
