Margate Main Sands

Margate Main Sands is the town's working heart for seaside leisure. A long sweep of golden sand shelves gently into the sea, lined with traditional beach huts, deckchairs for hire, and snack bars serving fish and chips and ice cream. The beach sits directly below the town centre, making it easy to step from shops and cafes straight onto the shingle and sand.

Behind the beach, the seafront is lined with amusement arcades, a small funfair with rides, and the sort of classic English seaside infrastructure that's been drawing families here for over a century. You can hire deckchairs and beach equipment, or simply settle on the sand to watch the sea. On summer weekends and school holidays, the beach fills with families; out of season it's quieter and has a more peaceful appeal.

The main sands are monitored by lifeguards during summer months. The beach is accessible via slipways and gentle paths from the promenade, and there's a mix of free and paid parking nearby on the seafront.
