Botany Bay

Botany Bay is a striking natural cove carved into the chalk cliffs east of Margate, marked by distinctive stacks and arches of white stone rising from a golden sandy beach. The bay is accessible via steps down the cliff, and is known among photographers and geologists for its dramatic geology. On low tide, rock pools appear among the rocks at the beach's edges, and the cave-like formations and cliff faces offer striking views, particularly in early morning or late afternoon light.

The beach itself is smaller and more rugged than the town's main sands, with a genuine sense of discovery. Botany Bay is best visited at lower tide to access the full beach and pools. Parking is available in nearby Broadstairs, from which it's a coastal path walk of about 15 minutes.
