Keillor Forest

Keillor Forest is a quiet area of mixed woodland in the rolling Sidlaw Hills of Perthshire, lying between Coupar Angus and Newtyle. The forest sits on the lower slopes of Keillor Hill and forms part of the agricultural and forested landscape that separates Strathmore from the Tay Estuary to the south. It is a peaceful spot away from the busier visitor attractions of the region, popular with local walkers, dog owners and cyclists exploring the network of country lanes that thread through this corner of east Scotland.

Tracks through the plantation lead walkers among Sitka spruce, larch and broadleaf trees, with occasional clearings opening up views across the wide farmland of Strathmore towards the Grampian foothills. Wildlife in the area includes roe deer, red squirrels, buzzards and a variety of woodland birds. Close by stands the Keillor Pictish symbol stone, an ancient carved stone marked with a salmon and other Pictish symbols, a reminder that this quiet farming country has been settled for well over a thousand years.

The forest is easily reached from the market town of Coupar Angus, which sits on the main road between Perth and Forfar and has bus connections to Dundee and Perth.
