Huntingtower Castle

Huntingtower Castle stands 3 miles north of Perth as a striking testament to Scottish baronial architecture. The castle comprises two tall rectangular towers connected by a lower range, built primarily between the 15th and 16th centuries. The western tower rises five storeys and the eastern tower four, with decorative harling and crenellations that speak to the castle's defensive heritage. The building's distinctive twin-tower design is one of the finest surviving examples of its kind in Scotland.

The castle has a colourful history, having served as a stronghold of the Ruthven family and later the Earls of Gowrie. The interior features period fireplaces, the haunting ghost story of the young lovers' leap between towers, and views from the upper floors across the Tay Valley. Now managed as a historic monument, the castle provides visitors with interpretive information about medieval castle design and aristocratic life. The surrounding grounds offer pleasant walking and views towards the Ochil Hills. The location, accessible by car or a moderate walk from public transport, makes it an ideal stop along the Perth to Crieff route.
