About this attraction

About Deal Seafront

Deal's seafront is a long stretch of shingle beach backed by a substantial promenade that runs for over a mile. The beach itself is pebbly rather than sandy, typical of the Kent coast, and shelves gently into the sea, making it popular with families. The famous 'Deal cats' (locally born feral cats living in the area) are sometimes spotted sunbathing on the beach.

The promenade behind the beach is lined with independent shops, cafes, fish-and-chip shops, and ice cream vendors, many of them long-established businesses run by local families. Walking from Deal Castle at the northern end down to Deal Pier, you'll encounter a mix of Victorian buildings and more modern additions. Benches are dotted along the seafront, providing spots to sit and watch the constant traffic of shipping through the Dover Strait.

The seafront is a focal point for the town and busy year-round with locals and visitors. It offers a classic English seaside experience without the sprawl of larger resort towns, and the combination of historic attractions nearby means most visitors spend several hours exploring both the beach and the landmarks.
