About this attraction

About Deal Pier

Deal Pier is a classic Victorian seaside structure that opened in 1864 and remains a focal point of the town's seafront. The iron-framed pier stretches nearly 1,000 feet out to sea, and whether you walk its full length or pause partway along, you'll get unobstructed views down the Kent coast and out towards the shipping lanes.

The pier houses traditional amusement arcades, a small fairground, cafes, and gift shops, giving it a cheerful, bustling seaside atmosphere. Many visitors come simply to walk the length and breathe the sea air; others stop for fish and chips or a cup of tea at one of the establishments along the way. On fine days, it's a pleasant spot to watch the movement of boats and ships through the Dover Strait.

The pier remains substantially its Victorian self, though it has been carefully maintained and modernised over the years. It's a quintessential British seaside experience and one of the few remaining working piers on the south coast.
