About this attraction

About Whitby Golf Club

Whitby Golf Club sits on the cliff tops just north of the town at Sandsend Road, laid out on breezy links-style ground with the North Sea running along the eastern boundary. The 18-hole course covers around 6,200 yards and is a par 71, mixing clifftop holes with more sheltered inland fairways. Several holes play close to the cliff edge, giving views back across Whitby to the abbey and, on clear days, north towards Sandsend and Kettleness.

The club was founded in the late 19th century and has kept the character of a traditional Yorkshire seaside course: firm turf, exposed to the coastal wind, with well-defined bunkering rather than heavy tree planting. Fescues and gorse frame many of the holes.

There's a clubhouse with a bar and dining room open to visitors, and green fees are payable by non-members. The course sits on the X4 bus route between Whitby and Sandsend, making it accessible without a car.
