Hogsthorpe

Hogsthorpe is a small village in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, sitting a few miles inland from the Lincolnshire coast between Skegness and Mablethorpe. The settlement clusters around the parish church of St Mary and a handful of farms, with the surrounding flat, fertile land typical of the Lincolnshire Marsh giving long open views in every direction.

The village has medieval origins and appears in the Domesday survey, and its name is thought to derive from an Old Norse personal name combined with the suffix ‘thorp’, meaning an outlying farmstead. St Mary’s Church, partly rebuilt in the nineteenth century, retains earlier features and remains the focal point of the community. A village green, a traditional pub and a scattering of cottages give Hogsthorpe its quiet rural character.

Visitors using public transport often pass through on the bus route between Skegness and Mablethorpe, and the village makes a pleasant pause on a longer coastal trip. Walkers can pick up quiet lanes leading out across arable fields towards Chapel St Leonards and the dunes beyond, where the Lincolnshire coastal path runs along the North Sea shore.
