Hetton

Hetton is a small linear village in the Yorkshire Dales, set in gently rolling countryside between Skipton and Grassington in the upper Aire valley. A cluster of stone-built farms and cottages line the single road through the village, framed by drystone walls and pasture grazed by sheep. With a population of only a few hundred, it has the quiet, lived-in feel typical of the southern Dales, far removed from the busier honeypot villages further north.

For most visitors the draw is the Angel Inn, a long-established gastropub on the road through the village that has built a national reputation for its food and has held a Michelin star. It is a popular lunch and dinner destination for walkers exploring the surrounding hills and for travellers heading further into the National Park. Beyond the inn, Hetton suits those who enjoy a low-key country stop: short lanes lead out into the fields, and footpaths connect the village to neighbouring Rylstone and the limestone scenery around Cracoe Fell.

The village is reached by minor road from the A65 at Skipton, and the wider area is served by Dales bus routes that link Skipton with Grassington and Malham, making it possible to combine a visit with walking on the surrounding moors.
