Cleveleys

Cleveleys is a relaxed seaside town on the Fylde Coast of Lancashire, sitting between Blackpool to the south and Fleetwood to the north. Its wide sandy beach is backed by a striking concrete and stone sea defence, completed in the 2000s, which doubles as a stepped promenade for walking, cycling and watching the Irish Sea roll in. On clear days the views stretch across Morecambe Bay to the Lake District fells.

The promenade is dotted with public artworks inspired by the children's book The Sea Swallow, including a giant ogre's head, shell sculptures and the Mary's Shell artwork on the sand, all designed as a sculptural trail that links Cleveleys with Anchorsholme and Rossall. Independent shops, cafés and traditional fish and chip restaurants line Victoria Road West, the main shopping street running back from the seafront.

Cleveleys is easily reached by the Blackpool Tramway, which runs along the coast from Starr Gate to Fleetwood Ferry, making it a popular stop on a day out along the Fylde shore. The town is also a good base for walks south along the prom to Bispham Cliffs or north towards Rossall Point and its tower observatory.
