About Alnmouth Beach

Alnmouth Beach, nestled at the mouth of the River Aln on Northumberland’s rugged coastline, is a serene stretch of golden sand framed by rolling dunes and the ever-changing North Sea. As you approach from the village, the beach unfolds in a gentle arc, offering expansive views that shift with the tide and light. The estuary to the south is a haven for seabirds, with oystercatchers and curlews often spotted foraging along the shoreline.

Behind the dunes lies the historic Alnmouth Village Golf Club, established in 1869 and recognized as England’s oldest nine-hole links course. The course, set on common land, is currently facing challenges due to coastal erosion, threatening its legacy.

A short walk from the beach leads to the Ferryman’s Hut, reputedly the smallest museum in Northumberland. This tiny structure once served as a shelter for the ferryman who rowed passengers across the river and now houses photographs and memorabilia from Alnmouth’s maritime past.

The beach itself is a tapestry of soft sands and occasional rock pools, perfect for leisurely walks, picnics, or simply soaking in the tranquil atmosphere. To the south, a more secluded stretch offers solitude and a wilder landscape, accessible via a path through the dunes.

Alnmouth Beach is not just a picturesque coastal spot but a place where history, nature, and community intertwine, offering visitors a peaceful retreat steeped in character and charm.
