About Winterton-on-Sea

Winterton-on-Sea is a peaceful village on the Norfolk coast, known for its golden sandy beach and unspoilt character. Unlike many bustling seaside towns, it retains a quiet, traditional feel with a small beach hut community and minimal commercialisation. The beach is excellent for walks, and the dunes beyond form part of the Norfolk Coast AONB, with protected sand and shingle habitat home to rare plants and nesting birds.

To the south, the Winterton Dunes Nature Reserve protects an important area of coastal habitat and is managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The village itself has a few shops, cafes, and a pub, along with a lighthouse which stands as a navigational landmark on the coast. Winterton is ideal for visitors seeking a quieter seaside experience, with ample opportunity for coastal walks, birdwatching, and simply enjoying unspoilt Norfolk beach scenery. The village is easily reached by road from Great Yarmouth and makes an excellent half-day excursion.
