About King's Lynn Minster

The Minster (St. Margaret's Church) is one of King's Lynn's most significant buildings, a spacious late medieval parish church built in the perpendicular Gothic style. The church dominates the Saturday Market Place in the town centre and is remarkable for its height and the elegance of its proportions. Originally a parish church serving the wealthy merchant community, it was elevated to Minster status reflecting its architectural and spiritual importance to the town.

The interior is generous and well-lit by large perpendicular windows, with fine timber roof structures and substantial columns. The church contains two notable baptismal fonts, each a considerable work of medieval craftsmanship carved in stone. The building reflects the prosperity of medieval King's Lynn, with wealthy merchants contributing to its construction and decoration over the 14th and 15th centuries. Today you can enter the church to view the architectural detail and experience the soaring interior space. The exterior is equally impressive, with pinnacles and decorative stonework characteristic of the period. The Minster forms the spiritual and architectural heart of King's Lynn's historic centre.
