White Rocks beach

White Rocks Beach stretches east from Portrush along the Causeway Coast in County Antrim, taking its name from the striking limestone cliffs that rise behind the sand. The soft chalk has been carved by the Atlantic into a series of caves, arches and sea stacks, with formations such as the Cathedral Cave, Lion's Paw and Elephant Rock dotted along the shoreline. Behind the cliffs, the dunes give way to the fairways of the Royal Portrush Golf Club, host of the Open Championship.

The beach itself is a long sweep of clean sand backed by the cliffs, popular with surfers, walkers and families. It is one of the more sheltered surf spots on this coast and a regular venue for lessons, with several Portrush surf schools running sessions here when the swell is suitable. A car park sits on the cliff top, with steps and a sloping path down to the sand.

White Rocks forms part of a spectacular stretch of coast between Portrush and the ruins of Dunluce Castle, and from the cliff path there are wide views east towards the Skerries, Rathlin Island and, on clear days, the headlands leading to the Giant's Causeway. The Causeway Coastal Route runs immediately inland, with regular bus services from Portrush and Coleraine.
