Poetry trails in Andover

The Poetry Trails in Andover are a series of self-guided walking routes through the Hampshire market town and its surrounding countryside, marked by plaques and waymarkers that carry original verses by local poets. Devised to encourage residents and visitors to slow down and look more carefully at the landscape, the trails link the town centre with riverside paths along the Anton, the parks at Vigo and Charlton Lakes, and quieter green corridors that thread out towards the chalk downland.

Each trail combines gentle walking with short stops at points of interest, where the poems respond to what is in front of you: the willow-lined river, an old mill site, a wildflower meadow, or a view across the rooftops to St Mary's Church. Printed leaflets and online maps are available to help walkers follow the routes at their own pace.

The trails make a relaxed half-day out and are easily combined with a wander through Andover's High Street, a visit to the Museum of the Iron Age, or refreshments at one of the independent cafes in the town centre.
