About Andover Town Mills
Andover Town Mills is a peaceful riverside park set along the banks of the River Anton in the centre of Andover, Hampshire. The site takes its name from the historic watermills that once stood here, harnessing the clear chalk-stream waters of the Anton for milling grain. Today the mill buildings have largely gone, but the riverside setting, weirs and sluice gates remain, providing a quiet pocket of green within walking distance of the High Street and the Chantry Centre.
Visitors can follow the footpaths that trace the river through the park, watching for trout in the clear water and ducks among the reeds. Interpretation boards explain the milling history of Andover and the role the Anton played in the town's development from a Saxon settlement into a busy market town. Mature trees, benches and open lawns make it a popular spot for a lunchtime stroll or a relaxed picnic.
The mills sit close to other town-centre attractions including the Andover Museum and St Mary's Church, making them an easy addition to a wider walk through the older parts of Andover. The park connects with the wider Anton Lakes Nature Reserve trails to the north, offering longer riverside walks for those who want to explore further.
