About Winter Gardens

The Winter Gardens in Weymouth are a compact area of public ornamental gardens set just back from the seafront on the Esplanade, on the Dorset coast. Laid out in the Victorian era as part of the town's development as a fashionable seaside resort, they offer a peaceful green pocket between the busy promenade and the residential streets behind, with mature trees, shaped flowerbeds and tidy lawns popular with families and walkers.

Visitors can wander shaded paths lined with seasonal planting, sit on benches looking across to Weymouth Bay and the Jurassic Coast beyond, or use the gardens as a quiet shortcut between the town centre and the beach. Bandstand concerts and small community events are sometimes held here in summer, continuing the tradition of genteel seaside leisure for which Weymouth has long been known.

The gardens sit within easy walking distance of Weymouth's golden sands, the harbourside with its colourful fishing boats, and the Nothe Fort. They make a pleasant short stop on a day exploring the town, particularly when paired with a stroll along the Esplanade past the King George III statue and the elegant Georgian terraces.
