Axe Valley Wildlife Park

Axe Valley Wildlife Park is a small family-run zoo just outside Axminster, set in the rolling countryside of the Axe Valley on the Devon and Dorset border. The park is home to more than 200 animals across some 70 species, ranging from meerkats, lemurs and marmosets to reptiles, owls and a varied collection of farmyard and rare-breed animals.

The site is compact enough to explore comfortably in a couple of hours, with shaded paths winding between the enclosures and plenty of picnic spots. Daily keeper talks and animal encounters are a highlight, giving visitors the chance to get close to species such as raccoons, coatis and reticulated pythons while learning about their care and conservation. A walk-through aviary, a small reptile house and a pets' corner aimed at younger children add variety to the visit.

An on-site cafe serves hot meals, cream teas and ice creams, and there is a sizeable adventure play area for children. The park's setting just off the A35 makes it an easy stop on journeys along the Jurassic Coast, and it works well as a half-day alternative to the larger zoos of the South West.
