About Williamson Park, Lancaster
Williamson Park is one of Lancaster's most valued green spaces, gifted to the town by Lord Ashton in the 1880s. The 54-acre park combines landscaped gardens, dense woodland and open grassland, creating a tranquil retreat within walking distance of the city centre. Visitors can wander through tree-lined avenues, discover secluded picnic spots and explore the woodland nature trails.
The park's most iconic feature is the Ashton Memorial, a white stone tower that dominates the skyline and offers panoramic views across the city, the River Lune and towards the Lake District hills and Morecambe Bay. The memorial is accessible via a winding path through the grounds. The park also features a café, children's play areas, and remains popular with locals for running, cycling and dog walking.
