Volk's Electric Railway, Brighton

Volk's Electric Railway is the world's oldest working electric railway, having first opened along Brighton's seafront in 1883. The narrow-gauge railway runs along the pebble beach between Brighton Marina and the Palace Pier, offering passengers a unique seaside journey with views across the English Channel. The original system was pioneered by Magnus Volk, an engineer and entrepreneur, and remains fundamentally unchanged in its basic operation despite modernisations to track, signalling, and rolling stock over more than 140 years.
