Thamesport

Thamesport is one of the UK's principal ro-ro (roll-on, roll-off) and container terminals, located at Gravesend on the Kent bank of the Thames. Since its development in the 1980s, it has grown to become a critical node in the UK's import and export infrastructure, handling containerised cargo, vehicles, and general breakbulk goods. The facility benefits from its deep-water berths and proximity to London, serving international shipping routes and supporting the wider South East economy. Its scale and operational intensity make it one of the most visible industrial landmarks in the region.

Whilst Thamesport operates as a secure working port with limited public access, its presence defines the character of the lower Thames foreshore. Visitors travelling along the route between Hoo and High Halstow will encounter the port's extensive dock infrastructure, container stacks, and ship movements, offering a vivid reminder of the estuary's role in global trade. The facility operates continuously as a working terminal and is not primarily a visitor attraction, but remains a significant landscape feature and marker of the area's industrial heritage and contemporary economic function.
