About this attraction

About Ranscombe Farm Reserve, Cuxton

Ranscombe Farm Reserve is a 80-hectare nature reserve managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, sitting on the north bank of the River Medway near Cuxton. The reserve protects important chalk grassland and woodland habitats, supporting a diverse range of wildlife including specialist butterflies, grasshoppers and wildflowers such as orchids and horseshoe vetch.

Visitors can explore the reserve via a network of established walking paths, with viewing areas overlooking the Medway valley. The site is particularly rewarding in spring and summer when flowers bloom and insects are active. The chalk slopes and open grassland provide panoramic views across the river to Snodland and the surrounding countryside. A small pond area attracts water birds and dragonflies.

The reserve is free to access and offers a peaceful escape into Kent's natural landscape. Its location on the number 151 bus route makes it easily accessible without a car, and the wide paths are suitable for families and those of varying fitness levels. Guided walks are sometimes available through the Kent Wildlife Trust.
