Lytham Windmill

Lytham Windmill stands on the Green at the heart of Lytham, a cone-shaped tower built from stone in 1805. The mill ground corn and other grains for local use and milling operations across the surrounding area. Unlike many windmills, this structure remains substantially intact, with its original machinery partly preserved inside. The white-painted cap and sweeping sails made it a distinctive feature of the Lancashire coast for nearly two centuries.

The windmill operated commercially until the mid-20th century, after which it fell into disrepair. Following restoration, it now stands as a museum and heritage landmark. Visitors can climb to the upper levels to see the internal workings and gain views across Lytham Green and the coastal promenade. The building offers insight into industrial heritage and traditional milling practices. Its compact yet imposing silhouette makes it one of the most recognisable landmarks in the Fylde Peninsula.
