About this attraction

About Gorleston-on-Sea Beach

Gorleston-on-Sea is a pleasant beach at the southern edge of Great Yarmouth, extending southwards along the Norfolk coast. The beach is predominantly sandy with a long seafront promenade backed by holiday facilities, shops, and restaurants. The beach here is popular with families and offers good facilities including lifeguard patrols during summer, beach huts for rent, and access to numerous cafes and amusement arcades along the front. The water is safe for swimming, and the beach has a gentle slope suitable for young children.

Gorleston Pier extends into the sea and has been a landmark since Victorian times, offering views along the coast and serving as a centre for arcades and refreshments. The beach is ideal for a traditional seaside day out, with plenty of space to sit, swim, or build sandcastles. Rock pools form at low tide among the wave-cut platform, creating exploring opportunities for children. The seafront promenade stretches for several kilometres and is pleasant for walking, either towards Great Yarmouth to the north or south towards Hopton and beyond. Gorleston offers a quieter alternative to the busier Great Yarmouth beach proper, whilst still having all necessary facilities close at hand.
