The Comedy Carpet is a striking public artwork installed on Blackpool Promenade, stretching approximately 2,200 square metres. Designed as an intricate mosaic composed of over 300,000 tiles, it features witty slogans, jokes, and imagery celebrating Blackpool's golden age of seaside entertainment and comedians who performed there. The installation opened to the public in 2011 and has become an iconic focal point along the seafront.
The artwork incorporates references to famous entertainers, seaside traditions, and historical moments from Blackpool's entertainment heritage. Visitors stroll across the colourful tiles, discovering layers of humour and nostalgia embedded in the design. The Comedy Carpet serves as both a tribute to the performers who made Blackpool famous and a modern celebration of the town's cultural significance as an entertainment destination.
