Cissbury Ring

Cissbury Ring is a significant Iron Age fort crowning a 182 metre high chalk hill west of Worthing. The site features a distinctive double rampart enclosure dating to around 250 BC, with sweeping views across the South Downs and out towards the coast. The fort's elevated position made it an important defensive settlement for ancient communities controlling the routes through the Weald.

Today, the site is managed by the National Trust and offers visitors a chance to walk the ramparts and enjoy extensive views from the summit. On clear days, the vistas extend across West Sussex and Hampshire. The approach is via well-maintained footpaths from the nearby car park, making the site accessible to walkers of varying abilities. The chalk grassland around the hill supports rare plant species and attracts butterflies and birds, adding ecological interest to a visit.
