Bluebell Railway Museum

The Bluebell Railway Museum sits within Sheffield Park Station in East Sussex, the southern terminus of the Bluebell Railway heritage line. It tells the story of the railway, of the pioneering preservation movement that saved it in 1959, and of the wider history of the Southern Railway and its predecessors the LBSCR and SECR.

Housed in a purpose-built gallery on the platform, the collection includes signage, lamps, tickets, uniforms, station furniture, posters and photographs gathered over more than six decades. Carefully reconstructed displays evoke a Victorian booking office and a country station waiting room, while interpretation panels explain how volunteers fought to reopen the line between Sheffield Park and Horsted Keynes after British Railways closed it in 1958.

The museum is included with a Bluebell Railway ticket, making it a natural stop between steam-hauled journeys through the Sussex Weald towards Kingscote and East Grinstead. Alongside the museum, Sheffield Park also houses the locomotive sheds and carriage workshops, giving visitors a rounded picture of how a working heritage railway is maintained.
