About this walk

This moderate circular route begins and ends in the quiet village of Ysbyty Ifan, tucked into the upper reaches of the Conwy valley. Setting out on foot, the walk climbs gently through pastoral countryside towards Bryn-Llech, opening up wide views across the surrounding hills and moorland that mark this remote corner of Conwy.

The path drops to cross the Afon Rhydyrhalen before continuing past the small settlement of St. John. Along the way you'll catch glimpses of the Afon Eidda winding through Cwm Eidda, with the rising ground of Rhiw Lwyd forming a backdrop to the west. Field paths, quiet lanes and stretches of open hillside link the waypoints, giving a varied 7.9 km loop with around 358 m of ascent.

Returning to Ysbyty Ifan, you pass close to Seion Chapel, one of several reminders of the strong chapel-going tradition of these upland Welsh communities. Allow around two and a quarter hours for the round trip at a steady pace, plus time to pause at the river crossings and viewpoints.
