About this walk
This 6.7 km circular sets off from Wotton-under-Edge, a handsome market town tucked beneath the Cotswold escarpment. The route heads out past Coombe Alpacas before climbing steadily onto the higher ground, where Blackquarries Hill Long Barrow marks one of the older features on the walk. From here the views open out across the Severn Vale.
The path then traces the twin summits of Tor Hill and Little Tor Hill, giving a fine sense of the edge that defines this stretch of Gloucestershire. With around 250 m of ascent packed into just over four miles, the climbs are honest but manageable, and there are plenty of excuses to pause and take in the landscape.
Dropping back towards town, the route passes The Ancient Ram Inn, one of Wotton's most talked-about old buildings, before finishing near the parish church of St Mary the Virgin. If you have time, the South Terrace, Wotton Auction Rooms and the lanes towards Coombe Hill and the Folly are all worth a wander before heading home.
