About this walk
This gentle circular route sets off from Deeping St. Nicholas and loops through the flat, sky-filled landscape of the South Lincolnshire fens. With only 10 metres of ascent across its 4.3 kilometres, it is an easy hour's walking on level ground, ideal for a relaxed morning or a short evening stretch.
From the village the path heads out towards Guthram Gowt, passing the quiet crossing at Guthram Gowt Bridge before tracking the edge of Willow Tree Fen Nature Reserve. The reserve, restored wetland managed for wildlife, offers wide views over reedbeds and grazing marsh, with the Counter Drain Washes nearby adding to the sense of open, watery country typical of this corner of Lincolnshire.
The return leg curves past Bank House Farm and Glen Farm, following field edges and quiet fen droves back to Deeping St. Nicholas. Big skies, straight drains and distant farmsteads set the tone throughout, making this a peaceful introduction to fenland walking without any strenuous climbing.
