About this walk
This gentle circular route from the village of Deeping St. Nicholas offers a short but rewarding introduction to the flat, water-threaded landscape of the South Lincolnshire fens. Setting out from the village, the way heads out along quiet lanes and field-edge tracks towards Bank House Farm, with wide open skies stretching in every direction and drainage channels lining the route.
The highlight is Willow Tree Fen Nature Reserve, a restored area of wet grassland and reedbed where lapwing, redshank and other wetland birds are often seen. Boardwalks and level paths make it easy to pause and take in the reserve before the route loops back through the fenland farmland to Deeping St. Nicholas.
With just 9 metres of ascent across 3 kilometres, this is a very easy walk that showcases the classic reclaimed-fen scenery of Lincolnshire. Counter Drain Washes and Glen Farm lie close by if you fancy extending your exploration of the local waterways and countryside afterwards.
