About this walk
Starting and finishing in the village of Aspley Guise, this gentle circular route links quiet lanes, parkland and points of quiet remembrance in the rolling countryside of Central Bedfordshire. From the village centre the path heads out towards the Hampden AD854 Crash Memorial, a poignant marker to a wartime aircraft loss set against open fields.
The route then eases through Crawley Park, where mature trees and gentle contours give the walk its parkland character, before returning towards the village past the historic church of St Botolph. A short stroll brings you to the Aspley Guise War Memorial, and back to your starting point in the village.
Along the way you are never far from other landmarks worth a detour, including The Spinney, the traditional White Horse pub, and the neighbouring parish church of St James at Husborne Crawley. At 5.7 km with modest ascent, it is an easy half-morning outing that combines history, woodland and Bedfordshire village life.
