Views of Ventor Walking Trail, Isle of Wight

This short circular walk sets off from the village of Bonchurch on the south-east coast of the Isle of Wight, climbing gently onto the downs above Ventnor for wide sea views. Despite the "0 m" ascent figure, expect some easy gradients as the path leaves the village and heads inland.

From the start you pass close to the Crab and Lobster before the route works its way up towards St Boniface Well, a quiet spot tucked into the hillside. Continuing on, you reach a Bronze Age burial barrow and cross the open grassland of St Boniface Down, one of the highest points on the island, before looping back down to Bonchurch.

Along the way there are opportunities to detour to Bonchurch Pond, the Cascade Gardens waterfall and an old dewpond, with Bonchurch Down and Littleton Down forming the wider landscape. At around 4.4 km it makes an easy hour's outing, best enjoyed on a clear day when the Channel views open out to the horizon.
